Control Traffic with Stop-Slow Bat - QLD

Course Details
To renew your Traffic Controller Accreditation in Queensland, you must complete the Department of Transport and Main Roads approved training program and demonstrate current competence as a traffic controller.
Your Queensland Traffic Controller Accreditation must be renewed every 3 years.
This course will provide the skills and knowledge required to control vehicle and pedestrian traffic using stop-slow bats, hand signals and approved communication devices in the resources and infrastructure industries.
Prerequisites
- A white card
- A driver's license (Australian or foreign) valid within the last five years (this ensures applicants understand vehicle maneuverability and braking dynamics)
- Current Traffic Control Accreditation Card
- USI number - https://www.usi.gov.au/students/get-a-usi
Before attending the renewal course, you must supply the following to the RTO:
- A letter of employment or supervisors report on a company letterhead stating your traffic control duties within the last 12 months,
- A completed Currency of Industry Practice document (COIP) detailing at least 32 hours of personal onsite duties involving managing traffic with a stop-slow with a bat that occurred within the last 12 months. - Resources Page
- Work dockets to provide evidence of the 32 hours stated in the COIP document.
Course delivery
This 1-day course comprises lectures and group discussions covering the following topics:
- Legislative framework and compliance requirements
- Risk management
- Planning and preparing to control traffic.
- Traffic control operating procedures
- Communication in the workplace
- Removing or covering signs when not controlling traffic
- Reporting incidents
- Worksite safety procedures
At the end of the course, participants will be required to complete a theory assessment.

Attendance Requirements
Students must provide to the trainer on the day -
- A white card
- A driver's license (Australian or foreign) valid within the last five years (this ensures applicants understand vehicle maneuverability and braking dynamics)
- Current Traffic Control Accreditation Card
Students cannot be under (or appear to be under) the influence of medication, alcohol, illicit drugs, or substances or are adversely affected by fatigue.
Students must comply with all requirements in the Student Handbook
Certification
Upon completing the course, participants receive a Statement of Attainment for RIIWHS205E- Control Traffic with Stop/Slow Bat. Evolution Training and Safety will also provide the documentation required to apply for re-accreditation as a Traffic Controller with the Department of Transport and Main Roads. RIIWHS205E - Control Traffic with Stop-Slow Bat course requires the completion of the following unit of competency to achieve a Statement of Attainment.
- RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace.
- RIIWHS201E Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures.
